Redlining is alive and well in US auto insurance industry.

From ProPublica and Consumer Reports: Minority Neighborhoods Pay Higher Car Insurance Premiums Than White Areas With the Same Risk

As much as 30% more, it turns out Long article, I admit I skimmed parts, but they seem certain about the data. Not surprising, but still galling... I picked it up off a friend's FB where 10 white people chimed in immediately to explain why the research was wrong and how race couldn't possibly be a factor

a small area in a neighboring City. That city has a large number of Minorities and their City Credit Rating is some what soft as the result of the last Housing Bust. If we move two blocks and into the next Zip Code,we would see our Auto Insurance drop 30-40%,different City Zip Code but a very small Minority Population and City wide higher Credit rating. Two Friggin Blocks.

In most inner-city zip codes banks would not approve a home improvement loan in which the home itself was put up for collateral regardless of how good your credit history was. Most inner-city homeowners had to either borrow from their pension plan, if they had one...

I believe that this bank redlining was instrumental in contributing to urban blight for decades!

ACORN burned Wells Fargo and US Bank as well as TCF over that one. Now they use your Combination of Credit Score and Zip Code as well as specific Census data with in that Zip Code.

Here is a new one we discovered a few years ago. If the City you are buying a home in was devastated by the Housing Crash, well be prepared to sign a statement guaranteeing you have gainful employment for the lenght of your Mortgage. Just one of those thirty plus pieces of paper at closing.

In fact, one white and one black family moved in last month, both near my house, and across the street from one another.

we live on one side of a 2 lane busy road from the very old established mostly AA community.

Would be very curious how to find the insurance rate variation.
esp. since Mr. Dixie and I have the oldest cars in the neighborhood.

use in the late 60s or early 70s... Also, the magazine industry used the same zip code/demographic info to determine if their magazines would have ads for Jaguars or ads for Fords.

Sorry, have to laugh, right now there are about 40 million middle class AMericans PRAYING that the Republican Senate will destroy ACA so they an pay higher premiums, go back to preexisting condition clauses and lifetime caps, and stop forcing them to pay for preventive healthcare.

Honestly folks, we are too stupid to deserve Obamacare. We actually dont deserve this beautiful country either.

I mean think about not just these idiots who vote against themselves but worse, how about the 40 million of us who just couldnt be bothered to vote AT ALL or who thought voting 3rd party would be cute.

Yes, I said HIGHER premiums, these idiots dont realize ACA puts a CAP on profits for the insurers.
