a cheer for my state ....

we have taken down all confederate memorials in the state but two, and two statues of Justice Roger B. Taney, the author of the Dred Scott decision.

All this week. Gone.

A couple of weeks ago the local confederate soldier monument was moved out of Rockville, too.

Go, Maryland!

My Great Aunt's daughter (who is 104) lives in Mount Savage. Well, actually lives ON Mount Savage.

Granted, it does not look like much, but still....it's the thought that counts.

But seriously, I really can't wait to see where my family settled, when they left the coal mines of Wales, for the coal mines of Maryland.

The main reason my Grandfather moved the family to Flint (I mean besides being able to get a great job at Buick) was because he was trapped in a mine collapse, and he didn't want his sons to ever have to take on that kind of dangerous work.

The guy basically ran out of money and apparently there are no followers with deep pockets. Ah well. No one said building an ark would be easy.
