In another episode of Some White People Being Surprised When White People Are Racist
Scrolling through my Twitter feed I saw a video posted by Melissa DePino that showed two Black men being arrested in a Philadelphia Starbucks for merely waiting on a friend to arrive before placing their order. Or as Black people call it, Thursday.

Starbucks has branded itself as a company that is concerned diversity and inclusion stating on its website,Embracing diversity only enhances our work culture, it also drives our business success. It is the inclusion of these diverse experiences and perspectives that create a culture of empowerment, one that fosters innovation, economic growth and new ideas. Starbucks CEO, Kevin Johnson, stated in an article written by Ronald Holden in Business Insider that, We are in the business of human connection.
Really? If this is what you consider human connection this is a serious fail.

There's a lot of outraged tweets under the video clip. The general consensus is that it's the Starbucks staff who called the cops.

(22,336 posts)I've seen white Democrats want to call the cops over stuff like this too. I think it's important for us white Democrats to own our own shit and recognize this happens among white liberals too.

(4,940 posts)Somewhere! But Daily Kos and Huffpo both say "Starbucks employees".
I don't really care who called - whoever it was is obviously a fucking idiot.

(1,152 posts)Sorry, I know there are a lot of good people. But I'm having more and more trouble finding the good in people. Especially white people (which I am).

(3,853 posts)I'm a white female Uber driver and I can't even count the number of times I have waltzed into Starbucks, McDonald's, Jack in the Box or any number of other fast food restaurants just to go to the bathroom and no one even says anything to me except maybe, "Can I help you?" Sometimes I buy something and sometimes I don't. Even when they have a sign that says Restrooms are for Customers Only they usually never say anything.
I hope they end up being released without charges and sue Starbucks and find out who called the police on them and they are fired, sued or both.

(1,152 posts)No one bought anything, we were just looking for somewhere easy to find. No one said a word. WTF?

(1,215 posts)And I emailed them to tell them this. Boycotting companies is second nature to me by now. There are always alternatives.
Heres a list of brands Starbucks owns:
Seattle's Best Coffee (which I like, but Ill live without)
Teavana
Tazo
Evolution Fresh
Torrefazione Italia Coffee
Ethos Water
And of course lots of Starbucks products.
If I missed any, please add them below.

I think that this particular Starbucks in Philly...or this particular part of Philly...simply has some racist employees, I see people waiting in Starbucks all of the time with no drinks...and I have done that myself...
Unfortunately, for Starbucks, this incident WILL reflect on them as a whole depending on how it is handled.
