Self-Expression.It's an inclusive place where you can be a nerd about anything pop culture, gaming, tech, womanhood, politics, or your own beautiful Blackness. Wakandacon is a fan-driven convention made to celebrate Black nerds and all of their creativity and passions.
In creating Wakandacon we imagined a place free and unshackled from the ravages of racism; of exploitation; of discrimination; of emotional, physical, and sexual violence. In a place where our histories are no longer narrowly delineated, we are no longer weighed down by what has been done to us. In a place where we are no longer defined by the expectations of others, we are released from preordained behaviors and predetermined futures.
While our event is targeted towards establishing a positive and supportive space for black people, Wakandacon is inclusive and all are welcome to come celebrate together. Visit the site https://wakandaconforever.com/about/our-philosophy

And just for fun, a couple of favorite Black Panther Challenges of last year.
Can't help myself, one more. And, of course, the title Africans Around the World is about people of the Diaspora in love with the representation in the Black Panther movie.

Goodness, I particularly love seeing children do the dance. They just instantly connect and want to do it! Yes! the second video really set the standard for the BP Challenge! And was my go-to, as well.
Thank You for sharing your slice of life. Now, that brightened my day

(1,731 posts)My mom and grandmother also tried to get into it, too. It was all kinds of multi-generational fun!
Your post was a welcomed ray of black sunshine, Kind of Blue. Thanks, again.

(8,709 posts)Too many memories you've conjured up. I wish my parents were alive to hear of your multi-generational fun. It seems like a small thing but something we enjoyed like magic almost on a daily basis. I remember the grand kids saying to their African grandapa, "You killed it but why do you make those crazy faces when you're dancing?" He said, "There's nothing pretty about killing something." And "You better dance like Everybody is watching! How are you going to get any good at it???" Or my mom, on her doctor trips butt dancing to old school rap, always saying I grew up with you kids. "Thank God for hip-hop!"
They were the two grooviest people I've ever known and I thank you, again, for sharing your mom and grand-mom with me because I can experience the laughter and be right there in joy as if it was happening now. And that's a blessing. Thank you so much

(1,731 posts)This, so much! Thanks for sharing with me, Kind of Blue. Your family sounds very familiar, Lol!
There's so much pain and hurt throughout the diaspora. Trauma from the past passed down through our DNA. We need to be able to smile more often. Your posts, not just this thread, always make me smile or think.
I see you, Kind of Blue.
