snip-"But later on, during the panel portion, things got strange when the conversation turned to race. Maher, as you may probably know, has a checkered past when it comes to racism and bigotry, from dropping the N-word on his program, to regularly trading in Islamophobia, to saying that Black Republican Rep. Will Hurd collected CIA intelligence by the Popeyes Chicken, to a despicable rant against China over the novel coronavirus."
snip-"Have no fear, however, because Bill Maher does not see race so much (according to Bill Maher).
So, am I wrong to not want to see race all the time? Because thats how I was brought up. Like thats what a good liberal does, is you dont see race. And now, they switched it all around and Im bad because I dont see it all the time. Is ubiquity even effective? To make people aware of this issue at every turn? said Maher"
snip-"Im so sympathetic to the cause, but dont gaslight me, you know? argued Maher. And this is what I hear privately from my Black friends: I dont want to be the focal point. I just want to blend in. I want to have a beer like you. Dont look at me like I have to make a speech about it, or you have to make a speech about it. (To be clear, this is Bill Maher speaking on behalf of his anonymous Black friends.)"
snip-"Ill leave you with the testimony of one of Mahers exes, Karrine Steffans. Steffans, who is Black, once said of him, Bill wants someone he can put down in an argument, tell you how ghetto you are, how big your butt is and that youre an idiot. Thats why you never see him with a white girl or an intellectual.

(58,015 posts)I mean with the hypocrisy and all...they both display racism (Jefferson with holding on to the his enslaved people and Maher with his racialized statements) but they both like them some black women.
How does one compartmentalized their thinking like that and be fine with it, have no problem with it or themselves?

scary times and with Biden up and running I'm not into libertarians. I want good government for the world that responds to real needs. I didn't appreciate the Libertarian putting down BLM as some communist started organization. Of course communists were involved at the beginning. They were there before the New Deal. That means nothing. Ideas often evolve from the extremes. BLM went mainstream and that is amazing. It is no longer easy to value a black life as less. Think of all the kids and young adults who got wings in May and June. It has evolved into Biden planning on training to become a policeperson. Or some such policy. He has not layed it out yet. BLM created room for better police policies to be implemented. It is amazing.
