by Frederic C. Rich.
In 2008 McCain is elected President. A few months later, while on a trip to Russia, he drops dead of an aneurysm. Sarah Palin is now President. Later that year, a truly horrific terror attack takes place in this country. The religious right consolidates power and essentially overturns the Constitution to create a Christian Nation.
None of that is plot spoiler, because exactly how it happens is absolutely riveting.
Read and discuss.

(23,156 posts)There are long passages that are the classic "telling, not showing" which is the bane of fiction writing. He's trying to fill in what happened in this fictional world. It comes alive every time the narrative gets fully involved in the events of the day.
It's not intended to be predictive, but a sort of alternate history.
I sincerely hope many more people read this book.

(18,219 posts)So far, I feel like it is more lecture and less novel, but I will plod along. I had not seen your recommendation, but I just saw the book at the library and was intrigued. I do have a feeling that there is a little too much truth in the book to be comfortable.
I will check back later with my thoughts after I get into it, or finish it.

(23,156 posts)You're right about that. But stick with it, because he does a nice job of projecting a couple of decades into the future.
