I'm starting this thread early so I can get it pinned before I leave for the day.
I'm not quite halfway through Tana French's latest, The Secret Place. It's Tana French; it's excruciatingly beautiful, awesome, amazing, stunning... I have to put off saying more until I've finished it and have had time to digest it. Just - Damn! That woman can write!
What are you reading this week?

(12,275 posts)This time it's one of her "Orchard Mysteries" Red Delicious Death. Once again I am in the middle of a series. My library doesn't seem to have the earlier books in the Orchard series. But I am enjoying this as much as the County Cork books. This takes place in Western Massachusetts.

(50,983 posts)I'm reading The Draining Lake by Arnaldur Indridason.
Mrs. Enthusiast just finished Edge of Eternity by Ken Follett. According to her, it is quite a history lesson. I haven't read it yet.
She has started Dark Light by Randy Wayne White. We both love the Randy Wayne White books. Tomlinson, lol.

(21,031 posts)Aurelio Zen is my all time favorite detective. You like Italian? I highly recommend Aurelio Zen.

(50,983 posts)Love it. But now I must substitute gluten-free pasta. Still, I love Italian.
Would you recommend reading the series in order? I see the first one was released in 1988.

(12,275 posts)While they are Italian, they are certainly not Roman.

(21,031 posts)"You like Venetian?", makes no sense as a catch. I hope more people find these books. Dibdin is witty, stylish and sometimes profound, but never dull. The fact that Zen is Venetian sets him apart; gives him ironic detachment even when bad men are trying to kill him. And even bad men have their reasons. He's a wanderer in his own land, chasing crime and the secret Italy. I've read all the Zen novels now, and it makes me sad that there are no more.

(22,340 posts)Have read most of the rest of the Tolkien library (his recent release of Beowulf is a couple books down my list) but had never read this. Very heavy on names and places and not a quick read, but totally worth it. Adds a lot of background to Hobbit and LotR.
