Does anybody know of some good books about the 1900 hurricane that wiped out Galveston? I've ordered up a couple of books from the library but I thought there might be someone on the boards who is also interested in this topic.

I had the good luck to see him on his book tour, and he was in our city on the actual anniversary of the storm.
Once you've read that, go get The Children's Blizzard by David Laskin. It also contains a lot of information about the Weather Service. Between the two of them, not only will you learn about two fascinating weather events, but a lot of stuff about weather tracking and prediction.

(10,044 posts)They had a helluva program about that hurricane - I've seen it a couple of times. Worth paying for if you need some good information..

I think that might be the book I ordered from the library. They had a couple of things.
And thanks for the idea of the tape. I would have never thought of that.
