"A Spy Among Friends: Kim Philby....." by Ben Macintyre

An excellent, well-written account of the Cambridge spy ring which gutted the British intelligence service in the 50's. A genuinely stunning testament to how much evil can be accomplished with relative ease, as long as your family, schools, choice of marital partners, clubs, and tailor pass muster, all sparked by an ability to consume huge amounts of alcohol. Afterword by John LeCarre', whose Smiley novels are derived from the Philby/Burgess/Maclean defections. Highly recommended.
