After years of squabbling, Harry Potter's best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger finally became an item - but now their creator JK Rowling has admitted she made a mistake by marrying them off.
Hermione - whose quick wits get the teen wizards out of many a scrape in Rowling's hit novels - would have been better off with hero Harry, the British author said in comments published by the Sunday Times newspaper.
In fact, Ron and Hermione would likely have ended up in marriage counselling, Rowling suggested.

No, Jo - they'd have ended up in the divorce court. I don't think any mature Potter fans would be surprised by this revelation; Ron was never Hermione's intellectual equal, and the Epilogue, which implied that Hermione was a happy housewife, was way off beam. Hermione should have ended up as Hogwarts headmistress, or even as Minister of Magic.
Never mind, Jo - there's a whole world of fan fiction out there, in which Hermione is married off to anyone but Ron, but more often than not, with a still-living Severus Snape, who would be more intellectually compatible. (This generally comes under the fanfic heading of 'EWE: Epilogue What Epilogue?')

And Ron wasn't stupid; he simply wasn't an academic. He wasn't quick, but he owned powerful magic. And I think Hermione might have wanted this large extended family.

(60,212 posts)Harry thought Ginny was bangin'. For him, she was the total package. Daring, athletic, funny, mischievous, and cute.
Did Harry and Hermione ever share any moments together? Did Harry ever look at Hermione and think "I'd hit it?" Or did they even have those kinds of stupid fights that people who like each other have?
At the Yule Ball in GoF, Harry thinks Hermione looks pretty and that's the end of that, but Ron gets really angry with her and they have a big fight that's supposedly about how Hermione is fraternizing with the enemy, but it's obvious to Hermione that the fight is really about something else. Ron misses the point, but Harry sides with Hermione.

(5,214 posts)I never saw an ounce of chemistry between Harry Potter and Ginny. Cho and Hermione yes, but Ginny, no. That just seemed an awkward way to force Harry into the family, which wasn't necessary. He was already in the family. And Hermione was too bookish for Ron, so I agree that it was a mistake to push them together.
