(39,836 posts)I served. And lived. Memorial Day rips my heart out. And it takes so little effort to remember and honor.

(25,483 posts)I can only imagine the hours you must spend doing your posts.
My Daddy was career Coast Guard 30+ years. I really missed not seeing him this weekend. He used to read the funny papers as he called them, to my Mother every Sunday. They're both dead now.
Thanks for adding Betty Boop to your posts, too. She's my spirit animal and I have a collection of her cartoons. I should probably spend some time looking at her. I need cheering up and singing along with her makes me happy.
Thanks so much for making DU a better place.

(7,892 posts)It wasn't easy. After combing through heaven knows how many "Memorial Day" images (some of which looked more like Valentine's Day) I searched for "All gave some, some gave all" images. Many were almost indistinguishable ... but when I got to this one I knew it was the one I wanted. Glad you like it too. (If I'd seen yours first, I might have grabbed one of them, and never have found it.)

(119,893 posts)collection. I have one question, and one tiny little quibble. In the panel of graves, with the ine being dug for war in Iran, is that supposed to be RAPIST/TRAITOR**/WARMONGER doing the digging (given that yellow hair)? And, pretty sure there were a WHOLE LOT more than 36,000 unnecessary covid deaths under same.

(19,565 posts)Cartoon came out when he was still in office and attempting to start a war with Iran, meant to caption it but
forgot. 36,000 number is from an older cartoon also.

(222,072 posts)I actually went to the cemetery today to check on and water the flowering plant that I brought there a few days ago. My Dad did serve, as everyone did back then, but inexplicably they gave him a WWII flag stand (I supplied my own flag which they fortunately left) even though he was still just a kid during WWII. But I do have a very early memory of him in uniform, all I can think was that he was in the reserves, wish I'd thought to ask him - or my grandmother.

(35,663 posts)Today is Memorial Day - and these cartoons are not humorous.
But I do understand while they're filed under the "Humor" heading.
