We rescued him from a situation where he was caged 22 hrs./day and a small dog was allowed to run free. He had a lot of anxiety and dislike for our cats when we got him after Christmas. We've worked and worked with him, and his anxiety is way down, but still there along with jealousy. He will try to stop the cats from coming to us - get in their way and herd them away from us, or try to hone in on their love by coming up to the other side and head butting us for attention. We send him to one bed when he's been bad about trying to block us, or shows any aggression towards the cats, it's his time out. So now, when he sees a cat in our laps. he will often just take himself to his bed. He's pretty good with our rescued cat who is younger and stronger and who doesn't hesitate to scratch when threatened, because they have separate "territories" and she's trained him to respect her. The other 2 cats are really old and have been with us since they were babies, he's intruded into their territories, and these cats never fought in their lives, so are just old slow sweeties. My old cats were great friends with our old dogs who have passed on. I still hope that with time they will be friends with Finley too.
