My Irish family were very long term residents in southwest Ireland, and were Irish Catholics.
One of my DNA matches was from Northern Ireland, a protestant and he was angry and adamant that no one from his
family would ever co-mingle with a Catholic. But the DNA does not lie.

(56,335 posts)All of my grandparents were immigrants to the US, so I could not figure out where it came from.
Then I leaned that one of my grandfathers, an immigrant from Quebec, had NA ancestry.
One of my original ancestors from France came to Canada in the early 1600s.
There were no European women in new Quebec. The NA women were said to be very beautiful.
So yes it is really neat to find out our ethnic mix when doing DNA testing.
