killing time

early in the morning right before a first light
arrives a killing time creeping in dark silence
descend without warning before sleep’s flight
marked by a single sign to come to violence
fires flash and roars crash death is unleashed
a sudden panic rises all running in confusion
the quiet dreams smash as devils are released
and fears strip disguises off of the lost illusion
a quiet has returned and dawn starts to break
ragged remnants lie in various poses of death
the bleeding and burned clutching the mistake
a useless way to die as a life has left the flesh
today advance ahead still tomorrow to retreat
celebrate victory instead but awaiting a defeat
