It's TNG but with a more realistic look at how humans are instead of the ultra-noble impossible versions on the Enterprise. Ed mistaking a bowl of marbles for mints in the first episode set the tone. That would never happen in the Trek universe.

Very clever how they, in my opinion, spun the pilot as a spoof, but then morphed into spot on Gene Rodenbury-esque Star Trek when the network wasn't looking.

It's a bit uneven at times, but, overall, it's a show I record and to which I look forward.

I bought the first season of Star Trek Discovery on DVD, and I know I'm supposed to like it more because it's the more serious of the two, but I believe I prefer The Orville.
