Retired (Maine) state trooper arrested on drug trafficking charges

A retired Maine state trooper was arrested Wednesday night and charged with dealing drugs, authorities said.

Maine Drug Enforcement Agency officers arrested Jeffrey Linscott, 51, of Buxton at 11:30 p.m. in the parking lot at the Gorham Hannaford, where he was suspected of dealing drugs to a customer. Agents seized several grams of suspected fentanyl and $1,000, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

The arrest was the result of a two-month investigation, according to MDEA Cmdr. Scott Pelletier.

Linscott was charged with a Class A felony of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, for fentanyl; two counts of Class B trafficking in scheduled drugs, for fentanyl and cocaine; and unlawful possession of schedule drugs, for suspected fentanyl, a Class C crime. More charges are expected to follow, Pelletier said.

Linscott retired from the Maine State Police in 2010, after serving as a trooper for 22 years.

He was taken to Cumberland County Jail in Portland. His bail was set at $50,000.

“These are guys with the name D-Money, Smoothie, Shifty – these types of guys – they come from Connecticut and New York, they come up here, they sell their heroin, they go back home,” LePage told a large crowd. “Incidentally, half the time they impregnate a young white girl before they leave, which is a real sad thing because then we have another issue we have to deal with down the road.”
