11-year-old boy kills grandmother after being told to clean his room: Officials

By BILL HUTCHINSON Nov 5, 2018, 10:03 AM ET

An 11-year-old boy shot and killed his grandmother and took his own life in their Arizona home after he was told to clean his room, authorities said.

The violent incident occurred Saturday evening in Litchfield Park, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix, and was witnessed by the child's grandfather, whose gun was used in the tragedy, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

The shooting occurred about 5 p.m. Saturday after the boy's grandparents told him to clean his room, sheriff's officials said.

The grandfather, whose name was not released, told deputies that the boy was "being stubborn" about cleaning his room after being repeatedly asked to do so throughout the day on Saturday, sheriff's officials told ABC affiliate station KNXV-TV in Phoenix.

Why did the boy take his own life? Do kids even understand suicide? Why didn't he shoot his grandfather?

I need more facts to convince me the grandfather didn't shoot both.

It’s odd that he ran after the boy first, then tried to render aid to his wife.

Stupid man had a loaded gun lying around, with an 11 year old in the house, at the very least he is guilty of extreme negligence.

The article makes it sound like the kid just said no to cleaning his room...but in what ways was he being told....
yelling? threateningly? Physically dragged to the room?

Most of us have watched shows like "Cops" where the "innocent" perpetrator soft pedals his involvement in the situation.

If the kid was a holy terror, leaving access to a gun would seem counter intuitive.
