Markdown language (ok for the non geeks text files with markup)

That renders it into HTML and a few others now has tracking changes mark up

I am doing a lot of my personal fiction in markdown, small files and almost perpetual, unlike more modern formats.

If you have a Mac, highly recommend markdown composer. I am using Editorial in my iOS device and of course Dropbox. Editorial, you can add the language.

I can write on almost any computer without ever worrying about unsupported document formats. An old Apple II or dumb terminal using a dial-up account would work.

It was the learning curve, not that steep, that was the real fun part.

At times I also play with Scrivener, which supports the language well and keeps all organized in a nice packet.
