(26,802 posts)There are a lot of on-line magazines that are real publishers. I'm somewhat aware of the science fiction ones, some of which would probably also publish horror.
One to take a look at is Daily Science Fiction. You can subscribe for free. It's a paid market and is a SFWA (Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America) qualifying market, which is a big deal in the science fiction world. I expect they'd be open to certain kinds of horror. As you've noticed in horror, there are lots of markets that aren't quite the real thing, and I suppose there's an equivalent of SFWA in the horror world.
I wish you much good luck. I'm a bit of a science fiction writer myself, and I know how tough it can be.
Oh, here's another thing to look at. See if you can find any open anthologies you can submit to.
There are lots and lots of science fiction cons, and probably at least some horror ones. Do some on-line research, and if you find something you can attend, do so. The cons are wonderful in my experience. You get to connect with writers and fans and with any luck at all find good publishing opportunities.
Hang in there. And let us know how you do.

As someone who has submitted and gotten rejections I know exactly what it's like.
I've also had a handful of published stories, so I've experienced a bit of success also.
I do wish you well.

In the modern internet age there is no such thing as a "real" publisher.
There's only those who will pay for what you write, and those who won't.
In between you'll find a lot of empty promises.
Writing is rarely an individual undertaking. Generally there's a community, or even a few family members, encouraging the author, and more importantly, offering honest, non-hostile criticism of the work.
Creating that community or discovering that community is hard work.

Though neither am a fan of horror stories, nor I like this source but just to help you out. You may get it a try to Netmarkers.com I don't wish to share link as my intention is not to give any favor to site or so. I read few chapters of story viral Jennie's suicide-the murder of life.
See if it helps.
