I have written a collection of short stories and have thought of making it an e-book.

It can be done with MS Word using styles but 'Dammit Jim I'm a writer not a word processor.' Is there a service that will take my .doc files and compile them into an e-book?

Anybody here willing to do it for a reasonable fee?

there will be a bit of a pause while I contact her first, since I suspect the email I have for her is not the one she uses for her business. Probably won't take too long, however.

If you plan on giving it away or selling it yourself, a good service is Word 2 Kindle. They charge $49 and will convert your word .doc into both a .mobi and .epub document. The .mobi extension is for the Kindle e-reader, and the .epub extension is for all the other e-book readers:

Another option is to use an Amazon service called KDP (Kindle Direct Printing). They will take a word doc, convert it to a Kindle E-book (.mobi), and also put it up for sale on Amazon.com.

It's a good service, but it was a pain in the ass to get through all their stupid paperwork:

Good luck!

They do publishing on demand, but it cost $40 up front to sell there, and the paperwork sucks.

You need a photo (front and back) of your ID and your last bank statement.

You also need to design a cover for your book (trust me, using your title page as a cover looks sloppy).
