Writing
Related: About this forumHi All. Question about Writing software.
I've been using MS Word and now that I'm close to finishing my first draft I realized that it was the Home and Student edition. I'm more than happy to put down some dough to buy the commercial version of Word and I don't know if I should buy the MS Word Office standalone, or something else. So I could take suggestions.
I only have a few more chapters to go, and when I'm finished with it, I'll probably use Scrivener for a bird's eye view.
I'm not looking for advice other than those two word processors. Thanks.

(1,702 posts)Once I learned it it required much less from me than Word. Words many capabilities get in the way of writing and editing. YMMV

(3,751 posts)I suggest the deal on the 2019 version, but either is a one time purchase. It won't get upgrades, beyond maybe security updates. There are other sellers who have these discounts, I just have used Stack Social before and see these deals in my email.

(8,720 posts)Like I said, Word Home and Office 2019 cost me $80. Now you can get all of Office Professional for $60? Pricing seems to be all over the place.

(3,751 posts)And M$ is trying to keep you in their grips. But I've found that Word's "auto format" to be really good at handling text.

(8,720 posts)I don't generate revenue with it thus wouldn't upgrade to Professional unless there is a feature I actually needed (advanced collaboration, security features, advanced table and chart tools, and integration with other business tools). I you do and are concerned about violating your software license agreement with Microsoft, go ahead and upgrade.

(14,521 posts)I got Scrivener long ago when it was cheap but have not done any "serious" writing yet.
I chose it over Ulysses. Now Scrivener appears to be a one-time purchase whereas Ulysses is like so many a ?8((8;6,7 subscription.
I must be a version or two behind the curve.
