Writing
Related: About this forumFirst book ready. Now need to find Agent.
Self- Publishing would take money I don't got. Could try to get a publisher myself, but I don't know if I would get very far.
Where to start?

(3,718 posts)Go online and there's a ton of info about how to find an agent looking for authors in whatever genre your novel fits. There is also a lot of info about how to write a query letter to an agent. I am in the process of writing a query letter for my first novel. I can tell you it is harder than writing the book was.
Congrats on getting your book finished. that's an accomplishment. What's your story about? My novel is a science fiction/murder mystery mix.I was so thankful when I got the last paragraph done. Writing has proven the most rewarding thing I have ever done. I hope you enjoyed it as much.
Let me know how things go!

You might want to check out Writer's Digest online...
http://www.writersdigest.com ... lots of great info. They have articles about getting agents, etc. They do try to sell you on their workshops and stuff...way too much money for me but great articles. Also, a blog I love The Bookshelf Muse is a lot of fun and their emotion thesaurus is wonderful.

(5 posts)Finishing a book is a great achievement, and you probably feel that rush of accomplishment and pride that comes along with that. But don't start sending query letters to agents (they are easy to find) until you can answer some of their questions. Their questions will have NOTHING to do with the quality of your work, but will have EVERYTHING to do with how you are going to get people to buy it. In short, you need to research your market.
This blog has some great tips: http://publishedtodeath.blogspot.com/

(19,890 posts)I know there are some others whose names I can't remember. I used to remember them all, back when I was agent hunting, so I didn't bother writing them down.

While you are searching for an agent, start your next project. You might also want to consider going to a writers conference or two. The best of them will have agents and editors in attendance. You will learn an amazing amount of good stuff at one.

Book 3= 1/4 done
I am one of those that find it useful to do more that one at a time. It helps me with writers block.

(12,181 posts)Authors almost always thank their agents. You'll find out which agents represent other writers in your genre. It gives you a list of where to start querying.
