Suni Lee, six-time Olympic medalist, returning to gymnastics ahead of 2028 L.A. Games
Suni Lee is returning to gymnastics, the American and six-time Olympic medalist announced in a video on Instagram on Tuesday, two years to the day before the opening ceremony of the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.
I know what Im capable of, Lee said in the video, which showed training and competition footage but provided no additional details of her plans. Im willing to do whatever it takes to get there.
Lee, 23, established her place in U.S. gymnastics history by winning gold in the all-around at the 2021 Games in Tokyo, after frontrunner Simone Biles withdrew from the event. She picked up bronze on uneven bars and silver in the team competition at those games, and then came back in 2024 in Paris, winning bronze on bars and the all-around, as well as gold with the U.S. team.
Lees latest comeback is remarkable because even her 2024 run seemed improbable at times. She was diagnosed with a kidney disease in 2023, which cut short her college gymnastics career during her sophomore year at Auburn.
