American gymnastics icon Mary Lou Retton has returned home following a lengthy hospital stay because of pneumonia, her daughter said Monday.

Shayla Kelley Schrepfer, the oldest of Retton’s four daughters, posted an update on Retton’s condition on Instagram nearly two weeks after the family disclosed that the former Olympic all-around champion was in intensive care.

The 55-year-old Retton is now in “recovery mode,” according to Schrepfer.

“We still have a long road of recovery ahead of us,” Schrepfer wrote. “But baby steps.”

I read something where she did not have health insurance. That's sad. Glad she's better. Silent Type Oct 2023 #1
She has tons of money. NoRethugFriends Oct 2023 #2
Did not know that, but not surprised. Really sad. Silent Type Oct 2023 #3
It's pathetic. They just don't want medical bills eating their inheritance. Also, being vaccinated against that brewens Oct 2023 #4

rare form of pneumonia would have been a good idea. If it's not COVID, I'll eat my shorts.

I do wish MLR well, but something is just not right with this incident or at least the daughter's account of the issues surrounding it. And yes, I do have to wonder about all that $$$ raised, when the average desperate Go-Fund-me plea for medical crisis funds ends up raising zero $ or nearly nothing. I assume Retton was seriously ill. Maybe she is nearly bankrupt, despite stories to the contrary. On this, I'll just say I hope she recovers and clears up all the discrepancies. Truth would go one hell of a long way...

As to her conservative viewpoints, I was vaguely aware that she supported Reagan, but hadn't heard her views in the many years since. I still haven't heard that she supported Trump so I'm assuming she (hopefully) had enough sense not to have gone that far.
