I don't know about Honda Civics, but there is a group for my car that knows everything there is to know. I found Reddit very confusing at first but am now enjoying it immensely. Good luck.

I've never used Reddit, but did suggest to my friend that he take the part to a Honda dealer. They wouldn't even talk to him unless he brought the whole car in, which is not operable or registered yet. He's also afraid they'd charge him some ridiculous fee for just looking at it and telling him what the part is.

Beyond that, I don't know how to help him, so I'll see if I can figure Reddit out for this purpose. He's going to an auto dismantler today to try to match the gizmo from another '93, if he can find one. He may have to go to a dealer in the end, but is trying to avoid it.

That was our "scripted response" to any complex inquiry, at the multiple salvage yards Ive asociated with in the past 50 years. Seems to work out that way, 'Cuz.......

He's taking the part with him to the dismantler's as I write this. Fingers crossed that he finds an identical one.

We'd still like to know what it is and what it does, especially since identification has been so elusive. If we can't even figure that out, how is he supposed to know if any replacement he gets is a good one?


Me, I'd have it at the dealer by now, even if there's a charge for "consultation," just to save all this hassle.

The gizmo in question was found in a '93 Civic at an auto dismantler's yard - the only one they had. It's got something to do with regulating the engine's idle.

I learn something new every day.
