Slipping automatic transmission trick

The 2 main reasons auto trans start slipping, one is no fiber left on clutch plates, only remedy is rebuild the
transmission. 2nd is hard rubber seals within the clutch drums, usually on older vehicles not driven much.

Remedy is to pour 1 pint of lacquer thinner (no more no less) into the trans filler tube when vehicle has not
been driven for at least 24 hours, trans needs to be "cold".

Then immediately start it up, put it in low gear, drive 20/30 feet and manually shift into 2nd gear, when going
fast enough (30 mph?) shift into drive, go a short distance and stop. Put into reverse and back up a few feet,
then manually back to low gear and repeat all gears to drive.

Best on lightly traveled side streets. Do not push accelerator pedal down anymore than necessary, you're not
in a race, easy does it works fine.

Keep manually going through all forward & reverse gears for a half hour, by then the lacquer thinner would have
circulated around all the hard rubber seals and soften them up and evaporated.

Done this to several vehicles that had just started to slip and cured them. One last note.....if you think your
trans is starting to slip, NEVER put the pedal to the metal, you'll just speed up it's demise, let off the gas pedal.
