Mercedes reveals monthly subscription to use car's full power - KTLA 5 Los Angeles

Mercedes has unveiled a subscription program that will allow car owners to increase the horsepower of their vehicles for an extra monthly cost. The program costs between 60 and 90 dollars more per month depending on how much power the user would like and decreases the zero to 60 times in a way the brand says is noticeable.

The feature, which is activated with an over-the-air update, is being met with backlash online. Competitor BMW quietly has shipped their cars with similar features like a subscription remote start or heated steering wheel. KTLA's Andy Riesmeyer reports. - Aired on 06/28/2023.

Not one that you have to "subscribe" to get the power you expect.

Is there another motive besides greed?

is to set up the car's GPS to speed limit data and the speedometer so people can't speed.

I've been in some pretty cheap rental car models here in Europe that show the speedlimit on the dash all the time. This includes construction zone changes. So it can be done.
