They moved into the dome and became the Astros. The dome ruined baseball for me, not the abysmal playing of the “team.” Team in italics because they had really good players but just couldn’t come together as a cohesive unit.

But the Astrodome was a horrendous place for any sports or entertainment - you couldn’t see well because everything was so far away and you couldn’t hear because the acoustics were the worst. If I remember correctly there was a 6 second delay.

One of the last concerts that Judy Garand did before her untimely death was in the dome. Probably not why she topped herself, but might have been one of those proverbial straws.

The speed of sound at sea level (which Houston essentially is) is about 1,125 feet per second. So, 6 seconds is 6,750 feet. That's over a mile & a quarter.
The Astrodome was huge, but not that huge.
But, I completely believe the sound in there was terrible. All that smooth concrete, glass & steel would make sound bounce around for a second or 2 from every possible direction. Even if full of people, there'd never be enough sound absorption to make it sound good.

And yes the Dome was an affront to sight and hearing, plus my best friend and I could afford right field tickets, a hot dog, and a coke on our allowances in Colt field. For the dome we had to be financed and driven by the adults.

unfortunately due to draconian MLB rules, since I don't have cable I can't watch Astros games, even if I pay for MLB. TV. So I missed it until today.
Getting Verlander and Valdez pitching a no hitter should remind the rest of the league that there's a sleeping giant that had some injuries this year but now that all that is resolved, watch out. A repeat would be awesome and is totally attainable.
