The bad calls are escalating. Every time I watch ANY game, even just for a few minutes, I will see a couple of bad calls on balls or strikes. It must drive the batters and pitchers nuts.
Umpire Ángel Hernández Misses More Calls Behind Home Plate in Yankees-Marlins Game
Despite Ángel Hernández blowing a whopping 15 calls, Miami Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara tossed a complete game against the New York Yankees.
While the New York Yankees and Miami Marlins were facing off with majors playoff implications on the line Saturday, it was umpire Ángel Hernández who became one of the game's biggest standouts.
Hernández missed 15 calls in the game from behind the plate, according to Umpire Scorecards. The mistakes Hernández made worked out to give the Yankees an additional 0.68 runs, although New York still lost 3-1.

(9,649 posts)For that matter, when are the ballparks in the north and east going to add a roof for inclement weather (which seems to be increasing).
A little OT.

(9,649 posts)If the weather is good, the roof is open. If not, close it.
But a new stadium WOULD cost a lot of money, and too often, taxpayer money.

(2,903 posts)There are extremely few rainouts. In climates where it's possible, baseball should be outdoors, period.

(2,205 posts)Most parks are now set up with AI strike/ball detection systems that are quite precise. These are there for review by the umpire, but the umpire is (and should be) the final arbiter.
If you're missing 15 calls as an umpire, it's probably time to retire (or be retired), however.

(9,649 posts)Batters have no confidence, especially with Angel Hernandez behind the plate.
Bring on the Automatic Ball-Strike system, please, as soon as possible. It doesn't help that they fuck up on both teams.
