Cleveland Guardians, 16-6.
They also have the greatest run differential at +52.
Helps to start the season against struggling teams.

(20,243 posts)Better than being swept by an inferior team. The Rangers are up next. The Guardians shouldn't take them lightly!

(31,798 posts)after 14 games played they're 7-7. That's pretty good, considering the Kwan injury.
Two separate trips to Tex-ass in those 16 games. (which is ridiculous).

(20,243 posts)but I'd guess that Cleveland uses the most pitchers per game. If not, they've gotta be top 3 in the league. Either way, it's generally working for them.

(31,798 posts)You could do the math yourself at https://www.baseball-reference.com, but I know from listening to Guardians radio that the bullpen has pitched a lot of innings.
In the last 7 to 10 days starters have been going a little deeper into games, and that's been good. But then Carrasco was put on the I.L. with neck spasms yesterday and Curry was called up from Columbus to take his place. He lasted just 4.1 innings against the Mets.
The concern is: can the bullpen stay healthy? The good news is two reliable relievers are close to rejoining the team from the I.L., Eli Morgan and James Karinchack. Plus one of last year's top young starters, Gavin Williams, is expected back in June or so.
Might need to deal for a rental if they're still in the thick of it by trading deadline.

(31,798 posts)No way he'd pitched after four straight appearances.
The rookie, Cade Smith, got it instead. And he pitched magnificently.

(20,243 posts)This morning I was reviewing my fantasy baseball team and I have a reliever who has been underperforming. So I took a gander at the waiver wire and Cade Smith definitely caught my eye there. His strikeout ratio is very impressive. The league I'm playing in counts saves and holds (plus strikeouts, ERA and WHIP), so he'll be useful to me even if Clase gets all or most of the saves for the rest of the season.

Cleveland's payroll: $100.6 million (26th in MLB)
One of these teams is a REAL bargain!

(31,798 posts)It was like listening to a playoff game. Cleveland won 10-8 to improve their record to 51-26.
Teams combined for five home runs, seven doubles, two triples, and 30 hits. Baltimore emptied their bench. Cleveland hit .636 with RISP and used five pitchers in relief.

(20,243 posts)there are plenty of reasons for optimism over the last couple months of the season. I picked him up in fantasy, so I'm pleased!

(20,243 posts)Jhonkensy Noel fellow. He's looking impressive!
Auggie
(31,798 posts)that was a stellar return for Boyd. Through 5.1 innings he was never 2BBs-0Ks in a count. That's pretty amazing considering he hadn't pitched in over 400+ days. Caught the Cubbies with their pants down.
Other teams will learn and adjust, of course. Just as they will with "Big Christmas."
What I like about Noel is how he's going after pitches out of the strike zone. Just make contact. Noel is so strong he can launch them.
Let Ramirez be the mentor, perhaps the best all-around player in baseball at the moment.
Jose hits strategically, hits for power, hits for RBIs, runs the bases exceedingly well, and plays a great third base. He's close to a 30-30-30 season: homers, doubles, and steals. If Ramirez played for the Dodgers or Yankees he'd be as hyped as Judge or Ohtani.
Biggest needs in the line-up IMO: a consistent #2 hitter behind Kwan. Someone who can offer him more protection with decent OBP and who's willing to sacrifice.
Biggest pitching needs: two or three starters who can go 6 or 7 innings.
You got me going, True Dough.
