(39,593 posts)I lived in Philly growing up in the early 60s. Went to a lot of games at Connie Mack Stadium. Lived within walking distance. My Granddad took me to a couple of games in Baltimore south of Philly a little way. I was mesmerized watching Brooks play the field. The Orioles were my favorite AL team thanks to Brooksie.

(10,053 posts)When he told Brooks that, he asked who was first. Stengel said it was Billy Cox of the Dodgers. He has a better arm, Brooksie. A better arm. When Stengel saw Cox for the first time in the 1949 Series he said, Thats not a third baseman; thats a fuckin acrobat!
