No love for Matt Cain today?

It was only the 22nd perfect game in major-league history and the 20th since the so-called "modern era" began in 1900. No-hitters have become relatively commonplace.

It is quite another story, however, to achieve perfection. There's no room for a walk, or an error or a hit batter. Each batter must be dispatched - no complications.

That's what made Cain's effort so special - and what undoubtedly caused such elation in the Giants' front office. This was the signature stroke of the Giants' modern-day identity.

I just finished watching the entire game (well, the top of each inning) on mlb.tv. Cain is a classy guy, and pitched masterfully. Blanco's catch in the seventh...amazing!

I was watching it, about an hour behind, from my DVR and was on FB at the time.
My friends started posting little hints of what was happening, wanting to talk about it
and yet not jinx it, I guess. About the time I was watching Blanco make that spectacular catch,
they all started posting PERFECTION! PERFECT GAME!! etc.

for once I wasn't mad about knowing the outcome before watching it all, I finished watching it
and loved it. It's going to be re-broadcast Thursday night, I'm going to watch it again,
every last pitch. It's the next best thing to the World Series win 2 years ago, to me anyway.
