From 1901 through just the 1912 season he won 312 games. He took the fewest seasons to win 300 games since 1901. He went on to win 373 games.

He died in 1925 (age 45) of tuberculous he contracted after his lungs were weakened by being exposed to a poison gas attack during a training exercise while serving with the AEF during WWI.
