The Indians have traded right-handed starter Trevor Bauer to the Reds as part of a three-team deal that also involves the Padres, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN.com. The Indians are receiving a large contingent in return, according to Passan, led by outfielder Yasiel Puig (from the Reds) and outfielder Franmil Reyes and pitching prospect Logan Allen (from the Padres). San Diego is getting outfielder Taylor Trammell from Cincinnati.

I was shocked to read this first thing this morning, but the more I consider it, maybe it will help the Indians. Surprising that the Yankees didn't try harder for Bauer ..... did his on field meltdown on Sunday have anything to do with that?
And Puig was front and center in a brawl last night in the Pirates game ..... sheesh .....

(2,234 posts)Im a Bauer fan, for better or worse. Ive seen few players work as hard to fit in and be a good teammate as he has, given his lifelong lack of social skills, and hes one hell of a pitcher. Reyes is a good catch, but Im no fan of Puig. Hes Albert Belle 2.0 and not in a good way. Been with the Reds four months and ejected three times..eek, technically two, since last nights brawl came minutes after he was traded and the Reds hadnt taken him out of the game yet for some reason. So he may begin his time with us on suspension. Ugh..

(34,536 posts)we didnt trade one problem for another. And they had better not platoon him in right field with Tyler Naquin, who has really blossomed this year into a fine hitter and fielder, and who deserves to play every day. Hopefully Jake Bauers will be the one benched more often.

(2,234 posts)Hes a natural first baseman and can serve as backup to Santana. It may mean Allen gets sent back down which I hate, too. And reports are they arent done. There may be more today. This is the part of baseball season I hate.

(31,775 posts)the intention here is long-term IMO, not 2019 playoffs. Reyes is under control until 2024. Puig was just the cost of doing business, unfortunately. The guy is a cancer. I hope in the brief time he's with Cleveland his behavior doesn't spread.
Bauer was gone anyway. This is a good trade, if just for Reyers, Allen, etc. As I wrote the other day, Cleveland rotation remains deep with Salazar and Kluber's return.
What I don't get is why Cincinnati would want Bauer. He'll cost them a fortune to re-sign.
