Former Tecos pitcher under investigation for rape, murder of 2-year-old girl

Former Tecolotes Dos Laredos pitcher Sergio Mitre was suspended indefinitely by the Mexican Baseball League Wednesday as he is being investigated for a serious crime.

Mitre was arrested Monday for drug possession and is being investigated for the rape and murder of a 2-year-old girl, according to a report from El Heraldo de Saltillo. According to El Heraldo de Saltillo’s report, the victim was described as Mitre’s stepdaughter and the daughter of the 19-year-old woman whom the 39-year-old Mitre has been living with for the past three months.

“Our league strongly condemns any criminal behavior and especially acts of domestic violence that must be eradicated in our environment,” the LMB stated in a release. “In our country, physical and verbal violence against women is a subject that requires the greatest of our attention. There will be no tolerance for this type of conduct in the Mexican Baseball League, and we will ensure the promotion of values that dignify human rights and that permeate our community”

Before joining the LMB in 2017, Mitre spent eight seasons in the Majors with organizations such as the Chicago Cubs, Florida Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers and the New York Yankees. Mitre went 13-30 with a 5.21 ERA throughout his eight seasons.
