He used to wear a batting helmet in the outfield for fear of being hit with thrown objects. As a hitter he hit titanic shots.
RIP Mr. Allen. You deserved better.

the racist interest that flourished in the 1960's and playing in the most racist city like Philadelphia did him no favors. I am glad to have seen a few games at Comiskey Park and a monster homerun he it. I never saw any player hit the ball as hard. A loss to baseball, a lost to the White Sox
