Giants' bullpen collapses in 14-6 loss to Nationals

Washington --

Ryan Vogelsong pushed himself to pick up the slack after Matt Cain was shelved last month.

As exhibited by his 2.49 ERA in five August starts, Vogelsong is getting it done.

"I know we got Jake (Peavy in a trade with Boston), and he comes with a great track record," Vogelsong said. "But I felt I needed to step up when we lost Matt."

Vogelsong put the Giants in position to win Sunday, handing a 6-3 lead to the bullpen only to watch the Nationals stunningly pull out a 14-6 victory. It was the Giants' worst loss of the season, the first time they lost by as many as eight runs.
