Wilson Contreras now a Cardinal. Wow.

I was hoping for Murphy from the A's because he's younger and a better defender, but the A's wanted too many of our youngsters.

One thing that the Mozeliak has consistently refused to do is over pay with prospects... Except for sending Alcantara to Florida for a wife beating outfielder that only stayed for 2 seasons.

That Cy Young left a welt lemme tell ya.

Anyway, all we needed to get an all star caliber backstop was cash, $87M over 5 years.

I hope Donovan and Nootbaar develop into all stars. This is twice that the Cards front office stepped away from deals rather than include them in the package.

And Cubs fans wonder why they have to wait a century or more for the WS victory. The one who purloins them resides down I-55.

4. Contreras always had "star" quality in the spring and early summer.

He nearly always faded during the stretch. I was always hoping that they'd trade him when he was hot because when it came to jockeying for a playoff berth, Contreras seemed to lose his focus. So I hope, for Willson's sake, that he finds a way to a steady performance throughout the season. He seems to be deserving of recognition for an above average career. But as for the Cards and their prospects for the medium term... well... I'm a hopeless Cub fan. I love it when they put together a team that gives the Cards fits.

It took my breath away. I’ve always been and will always be a Cubs fan…but what the owners and management have done the past two years is awful.

5. I agree. They did have a nice core of first tier players.

Apparently, management likes the idea of using Wrigley Field and the Chicago market for handsome profits. Their baseball team's quality performances seem to be an afterthought.

7. I feel for Cubs fans - They've been treated poorly by the owners these past few years

I can't believe they just decided to let him walk rather than just pay him market value.

A $17.5 AAS for a top 5 catcher is not a bank breaking deal by any means.

Don't get me wrong, having bad teams in our division makes it easier for my team to thrive, but watching a really talented squad get blown up - Over Money - irks me.

With the Cubs TV contract, merch sales and attendence at Wriggly they should be on NY LA or Boston's level
