It happened earlier today to Atlanta. Tied game, bases loaded.

That sucks.

Seattle fans are no stranger to losing to game officials calls.

Besides, it's the rules, follow them.

...so it's easy for the pitcher and batter to see.

Who knows, maybe they'll lengthen it for the postseason. ?

So far, so good. It *does* speed up the game.

Wonder if they’ll keep that rule for the postseason.

A 6-6 tie in a meaningless spring training game is the best place to make a rules point. No one on either team will forget it.

The rules are the rules - just ask Fred Merkle!

I would think you'd hate to see a critical game end on a technicality as much as I. It's not in keeping with the spirit of the game as it's been played for 122 years.

...do we blame the rule?
No, we think the pitcher did a boneheaded play.
Players have adjusted to rules changes since 1876. They'll just have to adjust to this one.
If they eliminate all the time-wasting, your scenario never even comes up.
All they have to do is pick up the pace.
They've been asked & asked but they refused to cooperate. Now, they have to make the adjustment.

The pace can be picked up without rigidly timing play. It should be at the discretion of the umpire.
