SF Giants come back to beat Cards, now a win away from pennant
They did not want to go back to Washington in the Division Series and made sure the flight never left the ground. They certainly do not want to go back to St. Louis and have given themselves a good opportunity to cancel that reservation.
The Giants are one home win away from capturing their third National League pennant in five seasons because they are playing fundamental baseball a whole lot better than the Cardinals.
The Giants came from behind to beat St. Louis 6-4 Wednesday night in Game 4 of the NLCS to take a lead of three-games to one in the best-of-seven series.
Madison Bumgarner takes the ball in the potential clincher Thursday night hoping to reprise his 7 2/3 shutout innings from Game 1. A win would send the Giants back to Missouri not the east end of the state, but the west end, for a World Series against the new American League-champion Kansas City Royals.
No one need remind the Giants this series is not in the bag, not after they were in the Cardinals shoes two years ago and won three straight to take the pennant.
Playing from behind after Ryan Vogelsong put them in a 4-1 hole by the third inning, long-relief shutdow artist Yusmeiro Petit allowed the Giants to stifle the Cardinals for three innings and launch a comeback.
