Tom Dumolin's lead in the Giro d'Italia went from more than two minutes to 31 seconds over Nairo Quintana on yesterday's queen stage of the Giro....

(12,298 posts)It was a bad peach, LeMond reckoded. After eating it, his stomach reacted violently. He turned to a teammate.Pass me your hat.
What do you want my hat for?
Please, just pass me the goddamn hat!
Taking the small cotton team cap, LeMond shoved it down his shorts, maneuvered it into position, and filled it until it was overflowing, He tried to clean himself up. but it was hopeless. Then he tossed the hat into the hedgerow and began the grim task of getting back into the race, slotting in behind the three teammates whod dropped back from the peloton to wait for him.
After 60 km he stage ends and LeMond:
Entering the (team) motor home, LeMond found it packed with boxes, but, tiptoeing awkwardly in his cleated cycling shoes, he negotiated the passage and ripped open the cubicle door. The toilet was gone. Where it had been, there were more boxes. LeMond was desperate. He tore open the lid of the largest box, inside which were thousands upon thousands of postcards. Staring up at him on each of the cards was the smiling, handsome face of his teammate Bernard Hinault.. LeMond didnt hesitate; he yanked at them, pulling out bundles of cards to create a borehole in the middle. Then he dropped his shorts , sat down and found glorious relief amid - and upon - approximately 40,000 depictions of the great Frenchman.
The common perception is that Greg LeMond was crapped upon by Bernard Hinault at the 1986 Tour de France. What most dont know is that LeMond got their first.

(16,953 posts)and it's a shame the Giro has no TV coverage in the US. Both it and the Vuelta consistently have more exciting racing than the Tour de France....

(62,444 posts)Any package fubo.tv adds in the U.S. will require the core bundle of channels to be purchased as well. This is the reason for the price increase to watch the Giro d'Italia. The fubo.tv cycling package is only $8.99, but you have to buy the 55 channel core bundle at $34.95 to get it. (Canadian viewers will not be subject to this same core bundle requirement and will pay $24.98 for cycling plus a few other channels). The U.S. bundle includes NBCSN and Universal HD which will give you live streaming of the Tour de France, Tour of California and delayed broadcasts/highlights from other ASO races including the Vuelta a Espana and Paris-Roubaix.

I've been pretty happy with the NBC Sports Gold package ($19.99) which had most of the spring classics, the Ardennes, Paris-Nice and Roubaix. But no Giro.
What kind of pissed me off last year was that I was in France during the second half of the Tour, and found out that NBC Sports won't stream in Europe (unless you use a US proxy server which degrades quality).
There are some pirated Giro live streams and, oddly, Colombia's sports TV network does not include regional restrictions. Of course, if you are watching a Colombian sports channel, you get intensive coverage of every time Nairo takes a gel, picks his nose, or what have you.
Or just stay in the "no spoiler zone" all day and catch the highlights or broadcast replays available on YouTube.
Given that Dumolin - Dumolin off all people - had over two minutes on Nairo Q, gained ground on the leading group from the time he took a dump to the time they crossed the line, and held onto 31 seconds advantage, then this would be a very different race if nature hadn't called.
The Maglia Rosa taking a dump is right up there on the hit parade with Froome running up Ventoux.
