We get far more Common Mergansers here in the fall and spring, so it's always a nice surprise to see the Hooded on the water.

I only see they as flyovers during migration where I live.

here in southern MD.

I only get to enjoy them during the winter where I live. They will be headed north soon, and I will have to wait till November for their return.
