Shooting barred owls. What could go wrong?

The proposal is to kill barred owls because they compete with spotted owls, a species they're trying to save. As we have seen so many times, unanticipated consequences are common when we tamper with nature.

He told me never to shoot an owl because it will bring bad luck.

As tempting as such a fix might be in terms of trying to protect an endangered species, we know from experience that we don't know enough to justify this sort of intervention.
