Juvenile cardinal (this afternoon)
Male and female juvenile cardinals look alike until they begin to molt in the fall. Taken from my back deck.

If you hadn't told us, I would never have guessed that this was a cardinal in waiting!
The second photo does show the top knot of feathers that look very much the same on the adult.
