It's official. The mockingbirds have 4 nestlings in the bush outside my window.

I noticed them bringing nesting material a few weeks ago. One of the parents has been chasing other birds out of the area for several days, including a couple of crows that were much, much larger. Over the last few days they have been making numerous trips in and out of the bush with insects dangling from their beaks.

I didn't want to disturb them, but I finally took a look and I could see the nest deep in the branches and when I nudged one of the twigs one slightly, 4 little heads with gaping mouths popped up out of the nest. Hooray!

I had a nest of cardinals to watch right outside my kitchen window a few years ago. Both the mother and the father procured food and fed the babies.

off of the container where I store the fruit and nut mix. When they hear it they fly in and sit in the bushes while I fill the feeders.

One morning I was on the porch with my coffee before I filled the feeders. One of the mockingbirds came up at sat on the porch rail in front of me, so I got up and filled the feeders.

We call our backyard birds and wildlife the "backyard pets". We store the bird seed outside in a metal trash can with a metal chain holding down the lid. We have squirrels that come up and rattle the metal trash can lid when the feeders are empty. They will do that until someone comes out to fill the feeders. The moment anyone goes out in the backyard the birds come to the trees nearby the feeder poles and start "talking" to alert the other birds. The little hummers will get really close and squeak at us if we don't fill their feeders fast enough. Guess they have us trained, too! Thank you for a great post. You take care.
