P.S. Susquehannock Wildlife Society

We wanted to follow up to our earlier post about the outbreak of Avian Influenza at the Conowingo Dam. Now over 100 Black Vultures have been found dead and safely disposed of after several birds had originally tested positive and it spread throughout the large number of these birds that frequent the area around the dam. The surrounding trail access in the areas where the dead vultures were found and remaining birds roost have been closed to protect the public and help the contain the spread. As far as we know there have not been other species found infected there at this time, including the Bald Eagles. If you find a dead or injured vulture in this area please do not approach it, but contact their number so it can be properly handled.

Here is an updated statement from Constellation who manages the Dam. Please direct any questions towards them as they are directly involved.
