Travis and Jason Kelce, brothers and Super Bowl opponents, are still ‘Cleveland Heights through and through’

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Mike Jones will spend some time this week digging through his closet.

In 2017 when the Eagles played the Chiefs in Kansas City, Jones, the former Cleveland Heights High School football coach and current physical education teacher, made the trip to watch two of his former players, Travis and Jason Kelce, play against each other at Arrowhead Stadium. The brothers put together a shirt for their old coach for that matchup, representing Jason’s No. 62 Eagles jersey and Travis’ No. 87 Chiefs jersey.

Ahead of Super Bowl 57 on Sunday, and the Kelce brothers making history by becoming the first brothers to play against each other in the big game, Jones wants to make sure he’s once again representing both.

“I’m going to wear it to school one day,” he told cleveland.com. “I don’t know which day I’m going to wear it, but I’m definitely going to break it out and wear it. I’m just excited. We’re just excited.”

Jones’ shirt represents a community divided in the best possible way.

Before the Kelce brothers went on to begin two of the most prolific careers in NFL history at their respective positions, they were just two kids from Cleveland Heights. Actually, they’re still just two kids from Cleveland Heights, despite all their fame and success on the field, keeping close ties with their hometown roots.

Ask anyone who coached them growing up, and they’ll confirm: With the Kelces, what you see is what you get, and it’s basically always been like that.

It’s also why outside of Kansas City and Philadelphia, the city most excited for this year’s Super Bowl is Cleveland Heights, Ohio.

They have their mother and father on this week, but they've previously had Gronk, Jalen Hurts, and Patrick Mahomes. It's both informative and funny and offers lots of insights into life in the NFL. One thing I really like about it is how respectful they are when talking about players on opposing teams--you kinda expect them to trash talk, but they're exactly the opposite of that.

that the Eagles and Chiefs have only played each other 9 times since 1972 (IIRC).

Their mom said she would be wearing both colors and she apparently already had a combo shirt for the conference title games.
