Browns' plans for move to new domed stadium in suburbs hits snag

CLEVELAND -- The Browns' proposal to leave the lakefront and play in a new domed stadium in Cleveland's suburbs has hit a major snag.

In a letter sent to team owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam, Cuyahoga County officials said Sunday that they're backing a proposed $1.2 billion renovation of the team's current stadium and are committed to keeping the NFL franchise in downtown Cleveland "for generations to come."

The team last week unveiled renderings for a $2.4 billion state-of-the-art stadium and entertainment complex to be built in Brook Park, Ohio, about 15 miles south of Cleveland.

The Haslams, who have owned the Browns since 2012, believe a new stadium that could host year-round events, potentially a Super Bowl and Final Fours, would trigger development and economic growth for the entire Northeast Ohio region.

Highlights (from the link):

• Funding for the dome/complex project figured to be a major challenge.

• The Haslams proposing a 50-50 private/public partnership in the $2.4 billion project.

• The Haslams said bonds could cover the public portion with the money coming from revenue generated by the dome and its surrounding hotels and retail sites.

• The Browns' current stadium lease ends after the 2028 season.

• The county argues having the Browns downtown is essential to a vibrant city core, with public investments in Progressive Field, (home of the Cleveland Guardians) and an expanding Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

-----------------------

You can see it coming in slow motion: Haslam's will threaten to move the team if they don't get their shiny toy ... and at taxpayers expense. I HATE THESE FUCKING PEOPLE. AS OWNERS THEY SUCK.

But it’s gonna have a dome! (assuming the taxpayers can be conned into paying for this palace). People still gotta get to the dome. That’s a challenge during a blizzard. Ask Detroit when they had a Super Bowl.

Dome, or no dome....

and I and a bazillion other “owners” of the Packers, (only team in the NFL that is owned by the fans), don’t care if it’s got a roof or not. Green Bay will never have a roof. *fingers crossed* So good luck Cleveland.....

And asks the taxpayer to pay for their fields and then asks the same taxpayer to pay for a ticket, $24 beers and $7 waters, etc
There is gonna be a time when the taxpayer says NO! Kansas City just did that to the Super Bowl Champs. And as a KC fan I agree!
Let the team pay for their own shit!
With the fucking profit. 🙄

Go ahead and tell me about the revenue for the city….actually don’t.
