The Secret World

Last edited Fri Jul 13, 2012, 09:34 PM - Edit history (1)

Is anyone else playing this? I decided to try it since it looks different. I haven't started yet because the patch is 14 gigabytes and I'm lucky to download 500kb/second so I'm going to be waiting awhile. So anyone else interested or playing it?

Do not delay, get it today! It's got a modern-day setting, and it incorporates puzzle-solving and lots of humor. No orcs or ents, just much fun. This is the game I've been waiting for ever since my husband got me into MMORPGs. Biggest problem is remembering to take breaks....it's that much fun!

It was planned that way; that's why they incorporated a web browser right in the game. I've had to look up a few things myself. I think that feature makes it feel as though you're "actually" doing the quests in real life - you'd be looking stuff up on the always-accurate Interweb LOL!
I'm REALLY having a ball!

Make sure you take time to listen to the quest givers...they put a LOT of time into this baby. Oh, and join the official message board too...full of helpful info. Don't you love the whole ambience of the game?

Made it over here this evening and am having fun in the academy. I've done some grouping, but not a lot. Now I'm just working through the main storyline mission.

Really enjoying this game--very atmospheric and tons of lore.

I can't wait for Savage Coast simply for the League of Monster Slayers quest line. I don't know why, but I like the kid that's apart of it in Kingsmouth, Danny.

Jul 2012

Last night, when I got tired of killing zombies, I decided to explore a little bit. So I flitted around Agartha for a bit, and ducked into the parts of Egypt and Transylvania I have access to. Very keen. There are some hair-raising trips in Agartha, btw, plummeting straight down, or swooping up in a huge arc. Found a few pieces of Agartha lore.

Also, I got hopelessly lost in Agartha after awhile, so I decided to see what would happen if you jumped over the side. You immediately pop back at the main entrance. Also, you can just walk normally between nodes if you go around the portal.

In speaking to the porter at the entrance, he mentioned that the older parts of the tree traveled to different times and other places. I wouldn't be surprised if that's in the works--you can see that this game is built to expand in almost every feature.

I'm ditching SWTOR, think I may pay for a lifetime subscription to The Secret World, I'm enjoying it so much. I see myself playing it in the long term, definitely.

Now to find a cabal.

I'm probably ditching SWTOR too and I say that as a huge Star Wars and Bioware fan. That is probably the best compliment I can give to Funcom, because I would never leave TOR for a game that wasn't a lot better.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed my time in SWTOR. But I'm bored now, and I can see that TSW is so much richer even from the little bit I've delved into. It's sad--SWTOR should've knocked it out of the park and they made it too much like WOW, which I didn't like all that much.

It truly is a breath of fresh air in the MMORPG world, isn't it? Not that I'm any expert. But just over the past few years of game-playing, I do see how limited the sphere in which they exist has been.
I've gotten a bit further (but still in New England), and I'm excited every time I run across new NPCs with stories and quests.
This could really be the game that brings people who have never played MMORPGS in....if they didn't all have Macs LOL.

I'm running it on a Mac under bootcamp. Could be better, I know, but it works fine for me.

In other MMOs I would just click through text quickly, because I just didn't care all that much. Here, I listen to everything, and talk to everyone.

It's part of the Mac operating system. You'll need a copy of windows and you'll need to create a partition for it. Boot camp will walk you through it but back everything up first. Also, it won't take XP anymore, so you'll probably need a copy of Windows 7.

I think it might be time for me to move out of Kingsmouth. I've done all the quests there multiple times, and have most of the inner ring unlocked. I'm working on Paladin right now, since blades and pistols have been the most fun for me. I did check out the amusement park and academy area awhile ago, but decided to hang out in Kingsmouth a bit longer to get my bearings.

Anything in particular to look for, for those who have ventured out?

BTW, I paid for a lifetime subscription. It just seemed like a good idea since I can already tell I'm going to be playing this game long term. Even if it goes free to play there'll be something for the lifetime people, and I like the idea of never having to pay another subscription fee. It'll pay for itself in a year.

hubby and I both sprang for the Forever membership. Heck, we just sprang for an Alienware layout for me! (my PC was quite elderly). Loving the game and occasionally stuck...but it's so satisfying when you move onward! I liked the quests at the bait shop run by a Native-American family. Just having a ball.

Jul 2012

Having a bit of a rough time this evening. I did the quest at the hotel, where you had to close the hell gates and kill lots of mobs on the beach. I died multiple times and got pretty frustrated after awhile. I did finally manage to complete it, but it was way harder than I expected it to be.

I love the amusement park, and I ventured into Black House, which was completely unnerving. Very well done.

I don't get why the game has such a low rating, to be honest. I'm still having a blast and I only just got to the Blue Mountain zone. I have paladin complete and am working on exorcist.

I honestly don't even mind the bugs, mostly because I haven't encountered a lot of them so far.

They're doing a great job fixing the bugs and the game is a blast. My biggest problem is trying to make sure I take my time. I don't want the fun to end! I love the NPCs, the gorgeous art, the moody music, the varied types of quests...and I love the depiction of my native Brooklyn!
My husband and I have been immersed in this game since release...and I should tell you that when I stopped playing LOTRO my character was about five quests from Level 75! CanNOT wait, though, for the character modifications coming in the next monthly patch.

I'm still playing, mostly farming AP for decks in Savage Coast, Blue Mountain, and Egypt. I really don't like Blue Mountain, seems way harder than even Egypt in places. I still haven't completed all the quests there.

I've completed the paladin and exorcist decks, working on witch hunter.
