Related: About this forumIs there anyone else where who sucks at FPS games?
About a year ago, I tried to get into them and bought COD, Fallout, and Halo since those were the most popular games. But I was terrible at all three games, and not even the strategy guides helped. It was too much work remembering how each weapon works and how to attack and defend myself. Pretty much the only games I kick ass at are Pokemon and Madden.

(501 posts)I'm really good at the Halo games, but I don't have an XBox 360 anymore so I don't play them.
I'm better at RPGs. My favorites right now are Skyrim for the PS3, Guild Wars 2, and Torchlight II. I got the last two just today.

(59,305 posts)I think I'm probably average, basically meaning I beat FPS like Medal of Honor with a bit of hard work. Personally I dislike FPS greatly, I don't like the view, and getting blown up by people you can't even see isn't really my style. The only reason why I stuck with Medal of Honor Frontline was because the storyline/graphics were great.
I tried getting into Resistance but got half way through the game before I got bored...I just don't gravitate towards FPS. I like 3rd person view the best, and I like games like Skyrim because they give you the option for either view.

(8,040 posts)Like Skyrim or Deus Ex. I got kind of bored by Resistance as well....own all three and have never finished one. Don't know why I keep buying them (always on sale though, never new).

(18,807 posts)Combat's pretty straightforward in that; less so if you mainly play an archer or mage (or archer-mage), but if you do that's till radically different from a normal FPS. Also, good lord is it simply a pretty game compared to the typical FPS brownocalypse.
Deus Ex is pretty shooty by comparison, but I like how that one rewards subtler playstyles a lot too aside from the thrice-damned boss battles. Plus it's pretty thinky as far as FPSes go, which is always nice.

(6,785 posts)On a PC with a keyboard and a mouse I can win most of the time.
Handed a console controller I'm the guy that spends the entire match being shot in the back of the head while yelling "Why won't he turn around? Which button makes me turn?! This game sucks!"
I still tend to prefer RPGs to FPS games.

(8,040 posts)But multiplayer......fuck. I don't even understand how people can be so good. They shoot the shit out of me before I can even see them. Give me a rocket launcher, and they still kill me easily with a handgun or knife.
I like slow, methodical first person shooters.....especially of the stealth variety. Like multiplayer only if it's co-op....like Borderlands. HATE team fortress or other fps where you multiplayer in teams....I hate bringing groups down with my suckiness. Also sucks being called a newbie fag. I wanna have fun, not be insulted and get the crap beat out of me. I hate the lack of civility.

(121 posts)Not excelling except on my good days. And there are some days whee I can't seem to get a head shot.
I enjoy them, but I prefer a good RPG like Dragon Age Origns or a JRPG like Final Fantasy.
As for multiplayer, I tend to avoid those. Too many people screaming "noob" and other less than polite words into their mics for me to enjoy the game.
I did make an exception for Metal Gear Online. Now there was a multiplayer I enjoyed. Lots of people screaming "noob" and whatnot, but it was fun to me. You could hide in the cardboard box and surprise people, you could focus on physical combat, lay traps, scan people. And it was third person. The game encouraged you to be creative.
Good times.

(501 posts)I mute everyone with mics. The people who use them are most insufferable!
I played MW3 for like a week and got bored with it. I played many hours of Skyrim instead.

(39,961 posts)No shame in not liking them. I love ARPGs like Torchlight 2, Guild Wars 2 and, yes, I sunk an eternity into WoW.
We game how we game. That's why it is gaming.
If I can sink too much time into a game and not be disappointed in myself, you can be not disappointed because you didn't.

(29,047 posts)COD is not very tactical, so I don't play it.
I absolutely love Fallout and Battlefield though. Battlefield is extremely tactical.

(501 posts)I played it only about a week on XBox 360, but it was an awesome game!
